Facade elements or external wall elements are non-load bearing elements, which can be used for any type of building construction. They are available with various surface finishing.
Facade elements
Facade elements or external wall elements are non-load bearing elements, which are available with various surface finishing, for example, wooden cladding, concrete fibre boards, etc. Facade elements can be used in different types of buildings, such as office buildings, school houses, kinder gardens, apartment buildings and many other building types. There are no restrictions as far as the surface design, or finishes, are concerned.
Built-in materials and products, such as doors, windows, electrical sockets / junction boxes, wiring preparations, openings etc, can be incorporated into the elements already in our factory. Depending on the customer’s requirements, the facade elements are produced as an open wall elements, or an insulated wall element.
Our standard production offers solutions for wooden and rendered facades.
Our facade wall elements can be fitted with external cladding (horizontal or vertical) or with materials suitable for plastering such as high-density wood-fibre panels suitable for plastering or Aquapanel boards in case of ventilated facades.
The choice of the type of external finishing comes down to personal preference.
However, plastered walls do have a better thermal inertia and are recommendable in warmer climates (read more here).
We offer both horizontal and vertical cladding and most of the boards are installed in the factory, leaving out only a few sections where connections have to be made on site.
Nordic or Mediterranean
In 10 years of activity we have seen many projects. In order to satisfy our Customer’s expectations we have developed a different solutions for different climates, both from aesthetic and comfort point of view. Today we are able to provide the right solution to build a wooden (timber framed) element houses in nearly any location in Europe.
Q-haus standard production offers cladded external walls (mainly for Nordic climate) and plastered external walls (mainly for Mediterranean climate). While the core of the wall remains the same, the outer layers are optimised for the prevalent climate in the Country of destination.
Cold climates require outstanding insulation and highly performing windows with large glazed areas, warm climates are all a different story and buildings to be built there shall have different characteristics.
While it is in general a good principle to keep a generous amount of insulation in the building envelope, in warm climates becomes important to consider the thermal inertia of the building more than its absolute energy emission. Failure to do so will quickly lead to overheating in summer.
This is one reason why brick/concrete structures are preferred in warm climates. However, with todays technology and with our knowhow, we are able to propose timber framed solutions with performances similar to brick/concrete with a fraction of the weight.
